What's happening in Redmond

Christmas tree pickup
Boy Scout Troops 27, 72, 99 and 126 will pick up Christmas trees for recycling in Redmond, Terrebonne and Eagle Crest Dec. 27 and Jan. 3. Trees should be cleaned of lights, decorations and tinsel. Leave trees at the curb or a location that is visible from the road before 9 a.m. on pick up days. A tax-deductible donation of $5 is requested. Checks can be made payable to Boys Scouts of America and attached to the tree in a plastic bag. Eagle Crest residents should call 541-385-3989 and provide an address. All other areas no information is required.

Redmond Area Park and Rec District classes
Tuesday Toddlers
, ages 2-5, first and third Tuesday of each month, 9-9:45 a.m., starting Jan. 6. Paint, glue, play dough and more. Cost is $5 per session.
Strummin’ Strings Guitar Lessons, ages 8 and up, Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 6-29. Cost is $48 plus a workbook. Students must provide a six-string guitar.
Melody Makers music class for babies 6 to 12 months, songs, instruments, nursery rhymes, Thursdays, 9-9:30 a.m., starting Jan. 8. Cost is $25.
Rhythm Rompers, ages 2 to 5, singing and dancing, Thursday mornings or afternoons, starting Jan. 8. Cost is $25.
Bento Box Fun, ages 6-12, make Japanese style Bento box meals with various ingredients, Jan. 10. Cost is $15.

Ski for Schools rescheduled

Due to the lack of snowfall this year, the Fourth Annual Ski for Schools event sponsored by Mt. Bachelor has been postponed to Friday, Dec. 19. Advance tickets are $15 and are available until Dec.17 at the Redmond School District office, 145 SE Salmon, McDonald’s in Redmond, and all branches of Mid Oregon Credit Union. Tickets are valid for all-day lift tickets, tubing or Nordic skiing. Tickets must be purchased in advance. All proceeds benefit Redmond and Bend-La Pine schools. Information: or

Learn to Dixie Twirl
Redmond’s Red Rock Squares is hosting lessons for beginning square dancers. The course begins Jan. 6 and continues for 12 weeks; experienced square dancers, or “angels,” will attend lessons to help students. Lessons will be from 7-9 p.m. at the Redmond Grange. Bachelor Beauts Square and Round Dance Club is starting its session of lessons for beginners Jan. 8 at Pine Forest Grange in Bend. Lessons will continue each Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and the cost will be $4 each lesson (first lesson is free). children ages 12-18 are welcome with participating adult. Christmas dinner available
The homeless and those who have no family with whom to share the holiday are invited to a free Christmas dinner at the Redmond American Legion Hall.The American Legion Auxiliary will serve a full turkey and ham dinner with all the fixings, including assorted pies for dessert, from noon to 3 p.m. Christmas Day at the Legion hall, Southwest Eighth Street and Glacier Avenue.

Eagle Crest lights
The Annual Starfest holiday light display at Eagle Crest Resort runs through Jan. 2, 2009. Lights on display nightly from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The Inn at Eagle Crest is also sponsoring the Teddy Bear Suite daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and visits and story times by the fire with Santa and Mrs. Claus each Friday and Saturday, 6-8 p.m., with hot cocoa and cookie decorating. Horse drawn wagon rides will be offered every weekend from 6-7 p.m. Rides are $10 adults, $5 kids 5-13 and free for kids 5 and under. Reservations are requested for the wagon rides.
