Redmond High School is home to the 'Eco-drone Crew,' and after school program led by science teacher Beck Barrett. They help local organizations map and document large areas of land through the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV pictured) with an on board camera. Read more in this week's Spokesman!
7th Diego's Spring Fling Car Show
The 7th Deigo's Spring Fling Car Show draws a crowd on Sixth Street downtown Redmond, April 25. The annual car show brings a wide variety of makes and models of cars every year. During the event there was a silent auction and raffle, of which the proceeds went to benefit the local Habitat for Humanity.
Redmond Chamber’s Business Expo
Mary Kay beauty consultants Patricia Bricker and Lara Danielle Chan talk with a passerby during the Redmond Chamber of Commerce Expo April 23 at the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center. The Business Expo drew about 35 exhibitors this year, according to the Chamber of Commerce. The number is slightly above last year.
Redmond High School Baseball Tradition
Colton Slavey swats an RBI double that tied the game at one run each in the early innings against Bend, April 22. The Panthers couldn’t hold against the hard hitting Lava Bears who pulled away to win the game 11-1 in five innings. Redmond is 6-9 this season.

Mayor presents annual message
Redmond Mayor George Endicott presented his annual State of the City message April 15 at Juniper Golf Club. His message was one of sustained business growth and city expansion. For more see this week’s Spokesman.

"Lucky Stiff," Redmond Proficiency Academy production
Molly Williams sings as Dominique du Monaco during Redmond Proficiency Academy Performing Arts' production of "Lucky Stiff," at RPA's west campus, April 18. The production is a musical comedy about a man who receives a large inheritance from his deceased uncle but will only receive it if he completes outrageous tasks his uncle left on his will -- one of which is taking his uncle's taxidermied body to Monte Carlo. The production will run again April 23 and 24, admission is $5 for students and $8 for general admission.

Middle School students look at a variety of careers
Former Redmond school superintendent Elton Gregory kicked off events at the school named in his honor April 10. More than 1,200 students at Redmond’s two middle schools listened to presentations at career days at their respective schools. See the April 15 Spokesman for more.
Tennis is a net plus for Redmond and Ridgeview girls
Riley Hanks returns a ball during a recent match at Ridgeview High School. The Ravens had a turnout of 20 this season and Redmond High welcomed 20 girls to the courts for the 2015 tennis season. See the Spokesman Sports for more sports news.

The house at Tetherow Crossing Park in Redmond is believed to be the oldest standing house in Deschutes County. Redmond Area Park and Recreation District hopes to raise funds to refurbish the original core of the house and add a classroom. See the April 8 Spokesman for the details.
Attendees of the 7th Stars in the Sagebrush award and fundraiser celebration prepare for dinner during the biennial event at St. Thomas Academy, Feb. 28. Redmond Education Foundation, a non-profit staffed by a volunteer board, hosted the event, which honored Redmond citizens who work toward bettering Redmond’s education programs. Teachers, business owners and volunteers attended, and there was also live and silent auction, dinner, and music performed by the Ridgeview High School Band. “Its a rewarding night for the recipients of awards and I think the Redmond education community enjoys seeing their own honored for their service to the Redmond community,” said Allan Hudson, president of the Redmond Education Foundation. The proceeds of the auction, which accrued more than $15,000 during the 2013 event, go toward supporting students and the Redmond education community.
