NARRATIVE:

On Wednesday, 4/13/16, at approximately 2:15 PM, the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office responded to a reported motor vehicle crash on NW 19th Street just north of Odem Avenue. The sheriff's office responded and discovered the above vehicle had been traveling southbound on 19th Avenue when the driver crossed the center line and oncoming lane of traffic, went off the east side shoulder of the roadway before impacting into a power pole. The vehicle then traveled through barbed wire fencing before coming to rest in an open grass field on the east side of the roadway.

An investigation determined the driver, Shuey, admitted to falling asleep at the wheel and driving off the road causing the crash. No indications that drugs or alcohol were involved. Shuey was determined to not have a driver's license. Shuey was not injured in the crash. Following the crash investigation, Shuey was arrested for an unrelated parole violation and lodged at the Deschutes County Jail.

Pacific Power responded to the crash as the power pole that was struck was sheared off, and power lines were dangling near the surface of the roadway. Pacific Power had to cut power to over 300 residents in the immediate area to begin repairs. Pacific Power estimates the power could be restored as early as 6:30 PM

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office as assisted at the scene by Redmond Fire Department, Pacific Power, and the Oregon State Police. This investigation is ongoing.
