Oregon State drug conference comes to Redmond

CLEAR Alliance to host 
Oregon State Drug Education Conference


CLEAR Alliance is hosting the 2016 Oregon Drug Education Conference at Eagle Crest Resort July 6-7. The agenda-packed conference will be focused on opioids, marijuana and impaired driving education this year.  

“We are excited to have such a diverse audience registered for the conference,” said Mandi Puckett, Executive Director of CLEAR Alliance. The registration list includes teens, parents, and a diverse representation of public-service professionals including medical doctors, prevention specialists, treatment providers, law enforcement, and businesspersons. 

Some of the highlights include a Charity Golf Tournament to support CLEAR Alliance, which tees off July 5, at 1:30 p.m. at Eagle Crest’s Resort Course. AirLink and its partner, FireMed, are sponsoring hole #1 and will be making a guest appearance by landing its AirLink Eurocopter EC-145 for all to view and explore. In lieu of the traditional shotgun start, the helicopter will launch to notify golf teams the event has commenced.  

As a sponsor of both the Golf Tournament and Conference, Kristin Lingman, AirLink’s marketing manager stated, “AirLink is honored to be a part of this inaugural event and to support a program that plays such an integral role in the health and well-being of the youth of Central Oregon and throughout the state.” Lingman noted that the helicopter will not be out of service during this event, and if the need arises, it will go into service immediately.  

There are almost 200 attendees signed up for the July 6-7 conference, as of June 30. More than 40 presenters are scheduled to share diverse health and safety perspectives.June 6 includes Karen Williams, to speak on youth brain development; an extensive look at opioids will be shared through the eyes of emergency room physician Dr. Pamela Tornay; Eric Martin will share about opioid treatment; and Dr. Marc Gonzalez will share opioid abuse prevention strategies.

June 7 includes Jermaine Galloway, from Idaho, presenting, “Tall Cop Says Stop,” Officer Galloway will share trends, tactics, products and pop culture in regards to marijuana; a panel of High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area professionals will share marijuana data from their states; and a group of teen volunteers from Lines for Life will discuss the YouthLine as well as youth perceptions of drugs.
