COCC Redmond burglary suspect arrested

Redmond, Oregon – On June 16, 2017, at approximately 4:40 am, Redmond Police Officers responded to Central Oregon Community College (COCC) – Redmond Campus on a report of a burglary in progress.  An employee came to work and found a person inside one of the buildings.  The suspect fled the area when he was observed by the employee.

Police Officers responding to the scene noticed a vehicle leaving the area.  A traffic stop was performed near S 1st Street and SW Veterans Way, Redmond.  The driver was identified as Mr. Tracy Downing, 36 years of age and a Prineville resident.  Mr. Downing was arrested at the traffic stop location.  Evidence of this incident, as well as tools believed to be related to last week's burglary at COCC – Redmond Campus, was recovered from the vehicle.

There are additional recent burglaries to Bend and Prineville COCC campuses.  The investigation is ongoing to determine if Mr. Downing is responsible for these other burglaries.  Redmond Police Detectives and Officers from the Prineville Police Department, served a search warrant at Mr. Downing’s residence in Prineville this afternoon. 

Mr. Downing is currently at the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Adult Jail in Bend.  He has been arrested for Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Burglary Tools.  He was also arrested for a Probation Violation.  As this investigation continues, additional crimes may be charged by the District Attorney’s Office.
