As a financial adviser at Edward Jones, Michael J. Bishop works closely with the Redmond community.
“My dad moved here when I was about six months old to start his business here,” Bishop said. “I’ve lived in Redmond basically ever since.”
Bishop, who attended the University of Oregon, says going into finance became a natural choice. Bishop’s father, David, has been an Edward Jones financial adviser for 30 years. Father and son now work alongside one another at the Edward Jones branch on SW Indian Avenue.
“I took interest in it almost five years ago,” Michael Bishop said. “I was fortunate enough to go work at the Edward Jones headquarters out in Saint Louis, which was a great experience. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
Bishop moved back to Redmond in April of 2014 to join his father at Edward Jones. Bishop says most of his days are filled with scheduling and conducting appointments with clients.
Edward Jones has four additional Redmond locations, which Bishop says he and his team frequently interact with. The Fortune 500 investment company has thousands of locations all over the United States.
“One great thing about Edward Jones is we’re a partnership,” Bishop said. “Our company does a really good job at fostering good relationships amongst different advisers. We see each other pretty darn often and share news and ideas with each other and try to build strong relationships. Especially in a small town like Redmond, it’s good to have those good working relationships with our coworkers.”
Bishop and his father are also members of the Redmond Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber frequently hosts events to support local businesses.
“Being a member of the chamber, we want to support local businesses and support new businesses that come to town,” Bishop said.
Bishop also volunteers his time as president of the Rotary Club of Redmond. Bishop explains that he enjoys getting to know his clients and being a holistic adviser.
“My job and our job is to understand what’s most important to them and create personalized strategies to achieve those goals and make them a reality,” Bishop said.
Edward Jones was recently named one of the hundred best companies to work for by Fortune Magazine.
“For me, having grown up in Redmond, I take pride in the town we live in,” Bishop said. “I think at the end of the day our office’s goal is to be that resource for someone who is looking to partner with an adviser.”
