July 18, 1918 — The much heralded and expected great drive by the Germans on the western front was launched on Saturday. It promised to be the greatest offensive of the war, but at this time seems to have been smothered before much momentum was gained. In the first rush the attacking forces crossed the Marne at three places, but the Americans were there and the prompt and vigorous work of our boys soon sent them back from whence they started, and even further.

July 22, 1943 — Redmond Chamber of Commerce, spurred by the gravity of the Central Oregon milk situation, held a special meeting Thursday night and passed a resolution asking the Office of Price administration to grant the milk producers the price increase they are seeking for their product. Chamber members expressed the opinion that the dairymen are justified in their demand for more money, which they declare must be forthcoming because of drastic increases in production costs. They are asking one dollar per pound of butterfat content in grade A milk for pasteurization and 95 cents for for grade C fluid milk. Former price was 85 cents for grade A.

July 24, 1968 — A television interview with Queen Janet Ryan and her princesses, Linda McFarlane and Debbie Foote, is to be aired on channel 9, KEZI, Eugene, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 31. The Deschutes County Fair court, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gordon of Bend, will be seen in a studio interview, inviting KEZI’s viewers to the gala fair days, Aug. 1, 2 and 3.

July 21, 1993 — Despite showery weather last week, the $416,000 re-roofing project at Redmond High School continues on schedule. But the Aug. 31 deadline for substantial completion of the project will require some long hours for crews from Eagle Roofing Company of Bend. “When it rains really hard as it did Friday, the job is delayed,” said Pat Young, district business manager.
