Ridgeview’s Sierra Cassaro leads a group of six tennis players from Redmond heading to Thursday through Saturday’s Class 5A state championships at the Portland Tennis Center.

Cassaro defeated Alyssa Retiz of Ashland 6-4, 6-4 in the Midwestern League final May 12 to take the district girls singles title. The senior looks to top her 2017 state performance, where she teamed with the now-graduated Riley Hanks to reach the doubles semifinals, where they narrowly lost to the eventual winners from Summit.

Cassaro has moved to singles, but the Ravens will still be represented at state in doubles. The team of Marie Carr and Megan Alldredge qualified for state by reaching the semifinals at the district tournament, as did the boys doubles team of Tim Schneider and John Wright.

Redmond will also be represented in Portland. Benny Saito defeated Jackson Whitaker in the third place boys singles match at the district tournament, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

He lost a close semifinal match against Churchill’s Alle Banna, 7-6, 6-4. He will look to top his 2017 performance at state, where he won the consolation championship.
