A Eugene man sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in a Dec. 5 collision on East Highway 126 at SE Lake Road in Redmond, according to a Redmond Police news release.
Shan Dieringer, 39, of Eugene, was driving a Dodge Neon west at 10:15 a.m. on Highway 126 and came upon a stopped vehicle waiting to turn left onto SE Lake Road, police said. Dieringer attempted to stop, but went into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with an eastbound Chevrolet pickup, driven by Diego Corona-Cabrera, 19, from Central Oregon, police said.
Dieringer sustained serious, but not life-threatening, injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Corona-Cabrera and his two passengers sustained minor injuries and were evaluated at the scene by medics.
The road was closed for 1 1/2 hours after the crash, while Deschutes County Sheriff’s officers assisted in the investigation. No citations were issued at the time, but police said speed, following distance and failing to maintain a lane of travel appear to be contributing factors in the crash. Redmond Police thanked the sheriff’s office because Redmond officers were at the scene of a fatal crash that happened just over an hour earlier on South Highway 97, just south of the SW Yew Avenue and SW Airport Way exit.
