Redmond author Karen Spears Zacharias is featured in a new anthology book. “Anthology of Appalachian Writers Karen Spears Zacharias Volume XI” compiles literature, scholarship, fiction, poetry and photographic art that showcases Appalachia, according to a news release.

The book is published by Shepherd University in West Virginia, which honored Zacharias with its Appalachian Heritage Writers Award for her 2013 novel “Mother of Rain.” Along with Zacharias, the anthology features work by Silas House and James Still.

For information on purchasing the book, contact S. Bailey Shurbutt at sshurbut@shepherd.edu.

Zacharias plans to travel in May with Shurbutt, an English professor at Shepherd, and Shepherd students, to Spain and France, where they will study “Burdy,” the second book in her Appalachian trilogy.
