The Redmond Proficiency Academy Thespian Troupe is celebrating yet another success.

The group came away with the highest awards ranking at the April 5 Oregon State Acting Competition, according to a news release from the public charter school. RPA was the only Central Oregon school to showcase at the state level for the third consecutive year.

“They truly left it all out there in the audition this year,” RPA theatre teacher Kate Torcom said in the statement. “Even I was floored by their energy, talent and passion as it took over the musicals’ room. This group is so loving and supportive of each other and of every thespian they meet. I am so happy that their work was recognized.”

RPA had 13 qualifiers earn “superior” ranking with their performance of “Welcome to the Renaissance” from “Something Rotten” — Nate Viscaino, Grace Blanchette, Jae Churchill-Dicks, Tayah Hester, Izzy King, Marli Messner, Riley Newton, Reilly O’Donnell, Elena Hazzard, Grace Sorensen, Sarah Gruenberg, Kendra McGuire and Dylan Rariden.

The group is raising money for the qualifiers to attend the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska, where RPA has competed the last three years. Torcom said the primary fundraiser takes place June 7 at Mazama Media in Bend. The event features a silent auction, food and performances by the students

“Over the last four years of competing, I have worked with so many amazing people,” said Viscaino, a senior. “This group of individuals is one that I will never forget. It has been such a pleasure to work with everyone and they are so deserving of being able to show off all the hard work they put in. Being able to finish my last state competition by showcasing is such an honor. Saying goodbye is going to be a very difficult thing to do, but I know that we all have so much to look forward to.”
