According to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton Oregon, temperatures at the Redmond airport averaged much warmer than normal during the month of September.

The average temperature was 62.4 degrees which was 5.2 degrees above normal. High Temperatures averaged 83.2 degrees, which was 7.0 degrees above normal. The highest was 101 degrees on the 4th. Low temperatures averaged 41.6 degrees, which was 3.4 degrees above normal. The lowest was 30 degrees, on the 9th.

There were 2 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees. On 8 days, the temperature exceeded 90 degrees. It was at least 100 degrees on 1 day.

Precipitation totaled 0.16 inches during September, which was 0.25 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on 3 days with the heaviest, 0.10 inches reported on the 25th.

Precipitation this year has reached 4.46 inches, which is 1.65 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at the Redmond airport has been 6.10 inches, which is 2.78 inches below normal.

The highest wind gust was 37 mph which occurred on the 7th.

The outlook for October from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for above normal temperatures and near to above normal precipitation. Normal highs for the Redmond airport fall from 71.0 degrees at the start of October to 56.0 degrees at the end of October. Normal lows fall from 34.0 degrees to 29.0 degrees. The 30 year normal precipitation is 0.65 inches.

This was the 4th warmest September on record. The warmest was 64.8 degrees in 1998
