The scene of a New Years Eve crash on Highway 97 that killed Charles Smith, 63, of Terrebonne.

A Terrebonne motorcyclist was killed in a New Year’s Eve afternoon crash on Highway 97 north of Redmond, according to an Oregon State Police news release.

Charles Smith, 63, was flown to a hospital and pronounced dead after the crash, in which a Chevrolet Suburban, which was pulling a trailer, collided with him, police said.

The Suburban’s driver, Jose Parada-Rodriguez, 70, of Terrebonne, was attempting to cross Highway 97 at O’Neil Highway when he pulled in front of Smith’s northbound Harley Davidson motorcycle and a BMW X5 SUV, driven by Delita Cordes, 62, of Madras, a preliminary investigation showed, police said. Smith and Cordes weren’t able to stop in time and crashed into Parada-Rodriguez’s vehicles, police said.

Parada-Rodriguez and Cordes were not injured, police said.

State Police were assisted by Redmond Police and the Oregon Department of Transportation, police said.
