Male athlete of the week

Augie Tobish, Redmond swimming — Tobish dominated in helping Redmond to fist place at the Jan. 5 Jay Rowan Invitational. He won the 50-and-100-meter freestyle races individually and was part of the first-place relay teams in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle.

Female athlete of the week

McKaylie Capps, Redmond basketball — The senior scored 22 points in a Jan. 4 victory against Bend. Redmond’s 52-43 victory was the first in years for the Panthers against last season’s Intermountain Conference champions, who are now in Class 6A.

Game of the week

Boys basketball; Central Christian 63, Rogue Valley Adventist 39 — The Jan. 5 victory evened the Tigers’ Mountain Valley League record at 2-2.

What to watch for

Wrestling, Crook County at Redmond — The Panthers play host to the former Class 4A power in an Intermountain Conference dual meet at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Cowboys won a multi-state tournament last week in Idaho that Redmond finished 22nd in.

Boys swimming

Redmond, with 419 points, won the Jay Rowan Invitational at Cascade Swim Center by 280 points over second-place Baker. Ridgeview was fourth in the five-team meet with 128 points.

Girls swimming

Redmond, with 207 points, finished second, 10 points behind victorious Baker, at the six-team Jay Rowan Invitational at Cascade Swim Center. Ridgeview was fifth with 106 points.
