After a week of uncertainty, Redmond and Ridgeview saw their girls basketball seasons end with first-round losses March 2 in the Class 5A playoffs.

No. 8 seed Redmond fell 56-41 at home against No. 8 Crescent Valley, while No. 2 Lebanon rolled 72-25 over Ridgeview.

Crescent Valley and Lebanon will have short drives to Thursday through Saturday’s state tournament at Oregon State in Corvallis.

As school was canceled for four days last week in Redmond and elsewhere in Central and Eastern Oregon, Redmond’s matchup with Pendleton in the Intermountain Conference championship game, as well as Ridgeview’s consolation bracket matchup, were called off.

The IMC awarded its three playoff positions based on RPI rankings, giving the Panthers the championship and also putting Pendleton and Ridgeview in the postseason.

Pendleton went on to lose March 2 by a 92-41 score against No. 1 Wilsonville.

Despite icy streets around Redmond, as well as conditions that lead to falls in the high school parking lot, the Panthers’ gym was mostly full for the playoff game, which turned out to be the farewell for a group of seniors who helped turn around the basketball program.
