Former Ridgeview star reaches NAIA national finals: Former Ridgeview star Garret Albrecht helped the Oregon Institute of Technology reach the finals of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Division II Men’s Basketball Championship, where the Owls fell 82-76 on March 12 to Spring Arbor (Michigan) in Sioux Falls, S.D. Albrecht didn’t score in the finals, but had five rebounds and a block in just under 15 minutes of play. Albrecht, a sophomore, scored seven points and had six rebounds in a 93-81 Owls victory March 11 against College of Idaho in the semifinals. Albrecht’s highest scoring game of the tournament came March 9, when he had 16 points and nine rebounds in 23 minutes in a 107-93 victory against then-defending champion Indiana Wesleyan in the quarterfinals.

Redmond wrestlers shine at tournament: Several Ridgeview and Redmond wrestlers placed at the March 16-17 Oregon Wrestling Association Freestyle & Greco State Championships in Scappoose. In the girls 138-pound weight class, Ridgeview’s Brooke Seber was first in both Greco and Freestyle. In boys cadet wrestling (for ages 16 and under) Ridgeview’s Cole Jackson was first at 195 pounds in freestyle and second in Greco. At 182 pounds, Ridgeview’s Logan Shenk was second in Greco and fifth in freestyle, while Ethyne Reid was fifth in Greco at 152 pounds, Carson Woods was fifth in Greco at 160 pounds and Danny Cornejo was sixth in freestyle at 138 pounds in the junior division. For Redmond cadets, John Downing (132 pounds) was second in Greco, Logan Hill (113 pounds) was sixth in freestyle and Aiden Garcia (182 pounds) was fourth in Greco and sixth in freestyle. In junior division for Redmond, Kagen Lawrence (120 pounds) was third in Greco and fourth in freestyle, while Clayton Elrod (182 pounds) was sixth in Greco.

Junior golf accepting applications: The 2019 PGA Junior League is now enrolling at Juniper Golf Course and Eagle Crest Resort. According to a news release, the junior league brings family and friends together to get expert coaching from PGA and LPGA professionals. The costs vary, but most kids can play for between $300 and $400. No golf experience is necessary and the league is open to boys and girls. Visit to sign up.

FUNctional fitness: For ages 16 and up. The class is intended to help you zero in on the most important exercises for active aging. Attendees are asked to dress warm and bring a light snack.
