Sports physicals night planned: The 24th, and possibly final, Sports Physical Night is planned for 5-7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at Redmond High, according to a news release. Physicals are required for all incoming freshman and junior athletes at Redmond and Ridgeview, as well as all middle school athletes, before competing. The event also includes athletic sign-up and clearance procedures and an opportunity to take care of “pay to play” fees. Parents must attend with their student athlete. Local doctors and other medical personnel are donating their time, which allows the $20 fee to go toward sports medicine supplies for the schools. Students with last names starting with A-G are asked to come between 5-6 p.m., H-P between 6-7 p.m. and Q-Z from 7-7:30 p.m. The Redmond School District says it will not provide mass sports physicals after this event because of new state guidelines that suggest teens complete a “well child check” with their primary care doctor annually. Those checkups include mental health screenings, preventative care plans and developmental updates.
