Redmond finished fourth in the 28-team Northwest Duals, falling 46-33 to Sprague, then losing 39-30 to Thurston in the third-place match.

Ridgeview, with 183.5 points, finished fifth in the 13-team Adrian Irwin Invitational in Bend. Home-standing Mountain View was first with 453.5 points.

Boys swimming

Redmond, with 83 points, finished third, while Ridgeview, with 43.5 points, was fourth in the eight-team Bend High Swimming for Giving Classic. Bend finished first with 167 points.

Girls swimming

Ridgeview, with 38 points, finished fourth, while Redmond, with nine points, was seventh, at the eight-team Bend High Swimming for Giving Classic, which Summit won with 187 points.

Sports in brief

Local volleyball, football stars honored: After leading Ridgeview to its first state title in volleyball, second-year Ravens coach Randi Viggiano was named the Oregonian’s Class 5A coach of the year. Two Ravens were named first-team all state, seniors Rylee Troutman and Allicitie Frost, while junior Ally Henry was named to the second team. Senior Susanna Bailey was an honorable mention selection. Troutman, who plans to play at Corban University, is also a finalist for 5A player of the year. Redmond’s playoff football team was noticed with honorable mention selections for senior linebacker Colt Folston and senior punter Andrew McKague.

Beginner and advanced Kendo fencing: For ages 12 and up. Japanese fencing, or Kendo, is designed to promote a strong mind and body in a safe environment. Beginner classes are from 6-7 p.m. Thursdays from Jan. 2-March 26, while advance classes are from 6-8 p.m. the same days. The cost is $120 for the beginner class and $105 for the advance class. Get your feet wet: For ages 16 and up. People interested in RAPRD aquatic wellness programs are asked to bring a swimsuit and towel to this Introduction to Aquatic Wellness Days presentation from 9-11 a.m. Jan. 4 at Cascade Swim Center. The class includes a 90-minute land presentation and 30-minute pool session.
