Behind a monster rushing performance from Josh Biever, Ridgeview picked up its first football victory of the season Sept. 27, while Redmond High fell to one of the state’s top teams in its final tuneup for the Ravens and division play.

Ridgeview 36, Churchill 28

Biever ran for 271 yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries in the No. 26 Ravens’ (1-3) 36-28 victory against No. 31 Churchill. Also adding rushing touchdowns for Ridgeview were Cody Wood, who had 14 yards on two carries, and Gannon Jeter, who had five yards on three carries.

Quarterback Bryce DeMars completed 8-of-19 passes for 80 yards, with a touchdown pass to Nathen Benz, as well as an interception. Benz finished with two catches for 10 yards.

Kevin Edmondson led the Ravens with five catches for 55 yards. Chuck Sheldon had one catch for five yards.

As the Ravens pass the halfway mark of the season Friday, Biever now has 501 rushing yard in four games.

Ashland 33, Redmond 7

No. 2 Ashland’s 33-7 victory at No. 18 Redmond (2-2) was the closest game so far this season for the Grizzlies (4-0), who defeated Ridgeview 60-6 a week earlier.

Austin Carter completed 5-of-21 passes for 82 yards, most of those coming on a 73-yard fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Kole Davis. The touchdown cut Ashland’s lead to 20-7, but the Grizzlies added two touchdowns late to put the game away. Davis finished with two catches for 76 yards, one rush for seven yards and also completed his only pass for 12 yards.

Brendan Powell led Redmond with 70 yards on 14 carries, Colt Folston had 26 yards on six carries and Carter had six yards on seven carries.

Folston added two catches for 10 yards and Henry Chambers had a 10-yard catch.

On defense, Chambers had two interceptions, a fumble recovery, four solo tackles and six assists. Folston, Ethan Payne and Dylan Moss each also had four solo tackles.

The Panthers will be looking to avenge a back-and-forth 42-35 2018 loss to Ridgeview at 7 p.m. Friday. This time, Redmond is the home team in the Class 5A Special District 2 North Division opener for both teams.
