Ridgeview softball coach Sandy Fischer is Oregon’s nominee for the National Federation of High Schools Coach of the Year award for her sport, according to an email from the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association.

Nominees for the award must exemplify the highest levels of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and moral character, and longevity is also an important consideration, the national organization said. Fischer, who came to Ridgeview after a long career as head coach at Oklahoma State University, led the Ravens to the state championship, their first in any girls sport, in June.

Fischer will compete against nominees from the other states in the national federation’s Section 8 — Washington, Montana, Idaho, Alaska and Wyoming. The winner there will compete against the winners from the other seven sections.
