Sports in brief

New football league for Redmond schools — Redmond and Ridgeview high schools will be in a football conference with more schools from the northeastern part of the state if a recommendation from the Oregon School Activities Association’s ad hoc football committee is approved Feb. 7, according to the Panther Prowl newsletter. The proposed Class 5A Special District 1 would include the Redmond schools and Intermountain Conference rivals Pendleton, Hood River Valley and The Dalles, along with La Salle Prep, Parkrose and Putnam from the Portland area. Redmond coach Seth Womack and Ridgeview coach Patrick Pileggi testified in favor of the change at a committee meeting in Wilsonville last week.
