Boys cross country

Redmond, with 96 points, finished fourth, while Ridgeview had an incomplete score in the six-team Intermountain Conference District Championships in The Dalles. The host Riverhawks won with 42 points. Redmond’s Finn Anspach finished fifth in a time of 16:53.99 to qualify for Saturday’s Class 5A State Championships in Eugene. With a time of 19:08.21, Luke Sperry led Ridgeview in 27th place.

Girls cross country

Redmond, with 110 points, finished fifth, and Ridgeview, with 129 points, was sixth at the six-team Intermountain Conference District Championships in The Dalles. Hood River Valley won with 24 points. Kloey Frederick finished second individually for Redmond with a time of 19:37.74, qualifying for Saturday’s Class 5A State Championships in Eugene. Morgan Shaw led Ridgeview with a time of 20:50.27, good enough for eighth place.

Sports in brief

Redmond teams high in academics: Several Redmond fall sports teams found themselves in the top 10 in the Oregon School Activities Association’s Class 5A Academic All-State rankings. A playoff team on the field, Redmond High was No. 2 academically in football, with a 3.32 grade-point average, just behind No. 1 Silverton’s 3.38. Ridgeview was 10th in football at a 3.06 GPA. Ridgeview finished third in girls soccer with a 3.78 GPA and fifth in boys soccer at 3.51. Ranked No. 1 in 5A going into the state tournament, Ridgeview’s volleyball team ranked No. 7 academically with a 3.79 GPA. In girls cross country, Redmond finished tied for fifth with a 3.88 GPA.
